Françoise Huguier is a leading photographer, a woman
who is free-spirited, tough, and rebellious. Originally from Brittany, she readily
identifies as a Bigoudène, an heir to those women who “went
up to Paris” to forge a new life for themselves. This drive
toward breaking free and independence runs through her entire body of work. She
has devoted her life to photographing the hidden corners of the world:
faraway lands, women’s bedrooms, secret rituals,
cities in flux, but also behind the scenes in journalism,
fashion, and cinema.
Having recently become “immortal” upon her induction into the Académie des
Beaux-Arts, Françoise Huguier continues to forge ahead, undertaking
more and more photographic projects. But today, time is running out. Since the
passing of her husband less than a year ago, “La Curieuse” has been searching
for a place to preserve her entire body of work. This quest becomes
one of the film’s dramatic driving forces: to pass on, catalog, publish,
and exhibit her work before this vast collection of images is scattered to
the four winds.
